Recipe of the day-hamburger helper mix

I don't know how many of you loves hamburger helper though we do. I don't mind getting it in the box, but it is also really easy to make at home. 
Here is my recipe for Hamburger Helper:

Hamburger Helper Mix
  • 2c powder milk
  • 1c. corn startch
  • 1/2c chicken or beef bouillon powder
  • 2T dried onion
  • 1T basil and thyme and pepper (optional)
  • 2T dried parsley
  • 1T garlic powder

Mix and store 3 to 6months in cool dry place

Basic Recipe
  • 1lb ground beef
  • 1/2c of mix (above)
  • 1 to 2c noodles
  • 1 1/2 to 3c of water
  •  flavorings

Brown and drain ground beef. Stir in the dry mix and then add 2c of hot water and 2c of noodles. You  can add more or less water and noodles.  Bring to boil, turn down to a simmer, cover and cook until noodles are tender, about 20min.

Cheesburger skillet: add 1c dehydrated cheese with dry mix or cook as above then stir in 2c grated chedder or colby cheese.

Stroganoff: add a bit of 1/2tsp onion powder and 1/2tsp celery salt with the dry mix, stir in 1/2c fresh or canned mushrooms. After cooking noodles, stir in 1/4c sour cream just before serving.

Chili: add one 14.5oz can diced tomatoes, 1T chili powder

Potato variation: instead of noodles, add 2-3c very thinly sliced potatoes. Simmer 2min until potatoes are tender. uncover and simmer until liquid has evaporated.

  • 1 1/2 to 3 cups water
