Please be safe and heed this advice.....
Today I got to speak to one farmer and what I learned his crop is nearly dead and since he lives close to a main highway. He is sacrificing by plowing up the crop that is near the highway and he also said he had cut some trees down, and made a fire break around his home.
I also spoke to volunteer fireman here in town and this is what he told me. He is really scared there is going to be a big fire and once it hits town there isn't going to be much stopping it. Why, There is so much dead trees on properties, debris, no fire break between buildings, etc.
So a word of advice:
It doesn't take long to put things away, It does take longer to find, collect and gather things if you are being evacuated. Your mind is in a state of shock, panic, etc and you can't think clearly
BE prepare
- gather up things you will think you need in one place-papers, pictures, valuables
- Call get copies of your medical records, dental, etc. Some of these may not be accessible to get by computer.
- Pack a bag for ea person ( I have packed at least 3 days of clothing)
- Pack a emergency kit
- Medication
- Utensils-can opener, silverware, knives, etc.
- Water at least enough for ea person for up to 4 days
- Food-canned meat, vegetables
- A good equipment to have on hand not just for emergency is a household plug that plugs into your cars cigarette lighter. Why this little device will run any household appliance that needs a 3 prong plug-electric teapot, crockpot, etc.
- Extra Batteries
- Radio
- Make sure you have designated Location
- If you have animals
- Make sure they have a place
- some emergency shelters don't take animals.
- Make sure you have their information-vet, shots, tags, etc.
- Take inventory of your items in your house.
- Make a video or take digital shots
- you can load a private video on google for your eyes only.
- I have an online account of our personal stuff
- Valuables like TV's-write down serial numbers, model numbers, etc.
- I will take a picture of items like TV with the picture I have description or serial number, make, model, etc.
Make your Property SAFE
- cut vegetation and trees back from your house, garage.
- make sure you have no debris sitting next to your buildings or yard
- Rain
- firefighters-safety, most of these are volunteers
- Evacuees that lost their homes or may loose their home
