Story Time-Hiking the Plains of Colorado

Yes I live in Colorado though I am not in the Mountains. There is other places that is just as beautiful too explore and hike.
This is one of many trails that is found in Sterling, CO. You may have to dig a map out for this one, because it is found on the prairies of Colorado at least 200 miles north east of the mountains.

The terrain of this trail is not all the way paved. Yes, you will find a paved path around the pond and it is lite in the evening which you can visit.

The other part of this trail is called Penny Lane.  It is a little bit rough, so if you are not good on your feet make sure to have good shoes and a good walking stick.

You will find this trail located on the North East side of the South Platte River, if you run across the street you will find the Visitor Center and during the winter a bathroom.

During summer bathrooms are open in the picnic area of the paved path.

This is a great trail to take with adventurers young and old  and 4 legged friends.

One of our walking companions is our dog, Minion, who loves running the trails.

The only trouble is he may pass you buy running at full steam. Occasionally you may want to take heed of this furball speeding by cause you never know what is chasing him. (Once he flew passed us and when we looked to see what it was, we ended up running...there was a mean old wild turkey coming full steam at us and wasn't planning to stop and chat.)

I also have proof in the picture above he is running from some bird that popped out weeds and started chasing him.

Along the way scenes that can be seen is trees dancing in stark contrast to the reflection of the river.  Light which is glittering and sparkling around your feet.

Smell of  a refresh crisp cool winter day.

Your eyes travel along the path watching it disappear,  anticipation can be felt building as your travel deeper and deeper into the wooded area.

Your Feet is following the tracks of  a bobcat, a deer, a beaver, and racoon.

All the while you wonder if your going to be meeting up with these beautiful creatures and thanking the Lord that it is winter and you won't meet up with rattlers.

This trail is one of the breath taking views that you and your family can experience as well when you visit this town tucked into the prairies of Colorado.
